aktiia manage hypertension

High blood pressure is estimated to affect just over a quarter of adults in the UK, around 14.4 million people and many of them could do more to protect their health without relying solely on medication.

People with blood pressure higher than 140/90 (mm Hg) are classified as having high blood pressure or hypertension. Some 42 per cent of people in the UK aged between 35 and 64 are estimated to have hypertension, which puts them at increased risk of heart attacks and strokes.

If you’re one of the many people who need to monitor their blood pressure regularly, to manage hypertension or diabetes, you may be interested in Aktiia. This innovative, lightweight wearable device is designed for ongoing monitoring, providing an easy and effective way to keep track of your cardiovascular health.

Aktiia is a lightweight wrist monitor that syncs with a blood pressure cuff.

What is Aktiia and how does it work?

Aktiia is a medical device that uses advanced technology to monitor your blood pressure. Unlike traditional blood pressure monitors, which collect data at specific intervals, Aktiia provides continuous monitoring that gives you a more accurate and reliable picture of your cardiovascular health.

The device is easy to use and comes with an app that displays your blood pressure readings in real-time. The app shows the average of all blood pressure readings taken within a two-hour time window, providing a smoothed curve that better reflects your blood pressure than a single snapshot view.

Aktiia was founded in Switzerland in May 2018 to create the best diagnostic and treatment tool for hypertension. This is the culmination of 15 years of devoted research by Aktiia’s founders to decode the key markers of heart signals and gain a better understanding of blood pressure.

This unobtrusive wearable device is powered by innovative technology that provides comprehensive insights into blood pressure patterns that can be shared with your doctor to inform the diagnosis and management of hypertension. The Aktiia device has received its CE Mark as a Class IIa medical device – recognition that it has been assessed to meet high safety, health and environmental protection requirements in Europe and is considered an effective tool to manage cardiovascular health.

Is it complicated? What do I need to do?

No, Atkiia is not complicated and it frees you from the inconvenience of sitting down at a specific time to measure your blood pressure with an ambulatory monitor. Here’s how it works:

Initialise: Use the Aktiia app to calibrate the bracelet with the included cuff. Then, store the cuff until re-initialisation in a month.

Wear: Go about your daily life – and let Aktiia measure in the background every hour, with a battery life of up to nine days.

Sync: Sync via BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) with Aktiia App to track your blood pressure measurements over days, weeks and months.

Share: You can quickly share a PDF report with your doctor or community nurse before your next appointment. It comes in a summarised format for easy review.

Act: Use the insights gained and your doctor’s treatment plan to keep your hypertension under control and live a happier, healthier life.

How is my blood pressure measured?

Aktiia Bracelet uses PPG technology (Photoplethysmography) to gather optical data on your wrist. The Aktiia Bracelet detects if the user is moving before initiating a PPG measurement and will provide blood pressure measurements only when the user is still.

You can wear the bracelet 24 hours a day and it will store every blood pressure measurement. You can sync the data manually by swiping down on the home screen, or the bracelet will automatically transmit the data to the app when your phone is nearby. This ensures that all of your blood pressure readings are safely stored in the app for easy access and analysis.

Helping you proactively manage your blood pressure

Regular monitoring of blood pressure is essential for maintaining good health, especially if you are at risk of developing high blood pressure or have already been diagnosed with hypertension. While cuff-based devices are widely available, they can be difficult to operate. Aktiia provides a simple and convenient solution to monitor your blood pressure throughout the day without any effort on your part. This enables you to focus on living your life while also taking control of your health.

It is important to note, however, that if you have concerns about your blood pressure, it is always best to consult your doctor for advice on the best way to manage your condition.
