At Dimbleby Cancer Care we have a simple aim: to help make life better for people living with cancer. Not just those undergoing treatment themselves, but also their families and carers.
We understand the importance of providing care and support during and beyond treatment, whether that’s ensuring people have access to the best information and advice, helping people access welfare payments and grants during periods of illness, providing complementary therapies to help relieve pain, stress and anxiety, or offering emotional support through one to one counselling and peer group sessions. All these things can have a huge impact on both physical and mental wellbeing during gruelling treatments, and in turn offer coping strategies to help during and beyond cancer.
Our main services are based in London at Guy’s Cancer Centre and at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup. But in 2018 we are launching Cancer Care Map. This national online directory will sign-post organisations – charities, community groups and NHS Trusts – all around the country who are offering care and support services. Often you might not know what is available in your local area or that things like massage and counselling can help relieve the side effects of radiotherapy and chemotherapy and help you get through your treatment. That’s where we come in. Many of these services are offered free of charge.
Cancer Care Map is a growing resource that is free to access and offers free listings for care providers.
In order to continue and expand the work we do we rely solely on public donations.
In 2018 we have two key fundraising events that you can get involved in. Throughout the month of March, as we celebrate 52 years of providing cancer care and support, why not join us and organise your own #DimbleTea event. Whether you have a cake sale at your school or office, take a tea break with workmates or put on a fancy afternoon tea for friends and family, you can help us raise the vital funds we need to continue providing care and support for people facing cancer.
And in June we have our 4th annual #Walk50 event. This year on 15th June you can take part in either a 12km, 25km or 50km walk through London. The fundraising event kicks off in the early evening and we walk into the night with the 50km walkers going right through to Saturday morning. Whichever distance you choose you’ll be walking with people from all ‘walks’ of life, make friends along the way and take in many of London’s famous landmarks.
