Takeaways are great but wouldn’t it be more satisfying to create a simple, tangy potato curry like Masaledar Aloo at home.

Deliveroo and Just Eat have made hay throughout lockdown with a surge in takeaway orders driven on the back of our love of takeaway favourites. But while we feel great while we’re eating them – they do significant damage to our bank balances.

Here is the solution.

Preparation 35 minutes
Serves 4-6

Ingredients

  • 250g potatoes, peeled and cut into 1cm dices
  • 75g diced onions
  • 150g chopped tomatoes
  • 70g tikka masala paste
  • 50g oil
  • 8g chopped fresh coriander
  • 20g yoghurt

Masaledar Aloo – Method

Bring a pan of slightly salted water to the boil, add the potatoes and cook for 5 minutes or until they will take a fork. Drain and set aside.

Heat the oil and gently fry the onions for 5 minutes, until just golden.

Add the tikka masala paste and chopped tomatoes. Cook for 10 minutes on a medium heat. Then add the yoghurt and potatoes.

Adjust seasoning to taste and garnish with fresh chopped coriander before serving.
