The Lowry Exhibition

Salford Quays, Manchester

L.S. Lowry’s marvellous and evocative paintings and drawings are on display at Manchester’s exciting, modern theatre, concert and exhibition halls. Entrance is free and you can learn more about the artist and his work at one of the complimentary daily talks.

National Railway Museum

Leeman Road, York

This marvellous museum is full of unique locomotives, some of them record breakers of their day and all rather special. There’s no charge for entry and you take part in tours and talks about the engines as well as joining in various activities. For all grandpas and grandsons who have dreamed of being a train driver, this is a must!

There are several places for lunch and snacks: the Victorian ‘dining car’ being a lovely option.
