The Red Lion Pub and Kitchen can be found in the idyllic village of Blewbury in Oxfordshire. Surrounded by the Berkshire Downs, the pub overlooks the beautiful countryside and offers a breath of fresh air. Within walking distance of the famous long-distance Downland walks; the Ridgeway and the Icknield Way, the restaurant and B&B plays accommodating host to walkers and locals alike, looking for a place to put their feet up and relax in a comfortable dining setting.
Following its refurbishment, the space is decorated using vintage, country antique and quirky finds, there’s a traditional, oak-beamed Bar with working fireplace and three standard bedrooms available for guests to stay on a B&B basis. The thing that’s most surprising about the pub is that it has not been caught up in the modern hygge approach to dining that appears to infiltrate most renovations, the pub stays true to its history keeping the décor simple and familiar.
Head chef, Phil Wild serves locally sourced produce in dishes that you wouldn’t usually associate with a traditional English Pub food, taking inspiration from a long career working in an eclectic mix of British pubs, Inns and hotels, including working at the Michelin-starred Carlton Elite Hotel in Switzerland, Phil combines the classics with unusual flavours bringing back to life family favourites.

For those wishing to branch out of their comfort zone and try something different, then the Red Lion Pub and Kitchen is the place to do so. Without over complicated sounding dishes, their roasted garlic frogs legs is divine and their signature starter – roasted scallops with cauliflower – doesn’t disappoint. Alongside the traditional fish and chips that appear on every pub menu, guests also have to option to mix cuisines with an excellent Thai fish broth or to stay closure to home with a trio of pork that arrives at the table topped with the most amazing curly, crunchy cracking.
Whatever your reason for visiting Blewbury, whether it be to walk the Berkshire Downs or to simply get a breath of fresh air, the trip will be made complete with a visit to the Red Lion Pub where tradition and innovation come together harmoniously.
