Having taken the place of an old tobacconist shop, the bar has been lovingly transformed, while offering clever details of its former past – the name for instance and the original sign. Owners Tanzi and Jean-Francois have already proved they have exceptional attention to detail with their past successes, Mill Lane Bistro in West Hampstead, Café Gourmand in Soho and neighbour Patron Cave a Manger which sits a few doors down on Fortess Road. Tabac bar is no exception to their creativity.
Everything about this bar oozes French charm and will soon become a neighbourhood favourite. The low-lit drinking nook is a small, one room venue and centres around an L-shaped copper bar with free-standing stools, tables and booths joined by a long leather bench, perfect for a candle-lit tipple.
Holding true to ‘the French way’, the wine and exquisite cocktails take primary focus on the menu. However, unlike many of it’s London neighbours, Tabac offers exceptional value for money with French wine served by the glass, filled to the brim and starting from as little as £3.50.
To accompany a lovingly created wine list is a selection of light bites and sharing platters. The options include cheeses, charcuterie boards, pate, olives, nuts and saucisson, all of which are prepared at the bar in front on you.
All in all, Tabac bar is one of North West London’s more intimate drinking joints and is a place that provides comfort and tranquillity in every £3.50 glass of the house red.
